Connecting with the young generation of designers

Last week, I had the great pleasure of giving a talk at the Fashion School Marie-Victorin here in Montreal. It was a moving experience — one that allowed me to reflect on both my personal and professional journey as a fashion designer, in front of a room filled with curious, passionate, and wonderfully attentive students.

When I received the invitation, I said yes without hesitation. Not out of ego, but because I truly believe in the importance of sharing what we go through — the successes, yes, but also the doubts, the detours, the moments that shape us. If my path resonates with someone, sparks a realization, or simply offers comfort, then it’s worth it.

I spoke about my beginnings: sewing my first garments in my bedroom, discovering clothing as an intimate language, and navigating the sometimes rigid structures of the industry while trying to stay true to a personal vision. I opened up about the creative struggles, the turning points, the people who believed in me, and the projects that made my heart race.

What touched me most were the conversations that followed — the thoughtful questions, the bright eyes, the quiet moments in the hallway afterward. I saw myself in many of them: hungry to learn, burning to create something meaningful.

Thank you to the faculty for the warm welcome, and to everyone who showed up and listened with such openness. You reminded me why I do this work: to tell stories, to connect, to transform.
